Graeme Robertson Selected For European Palmer Cup Team

Graeme Robertson’s (Glenbervie)  fine start to the season was recognised yesterday by his inclusion in an elite gents team to face the United States in the annual Ryder Cup style contest to be held at The Royal County Down Golf Club in Northern Ireland this summer from June 28th  to 30th .

The players are all college or university students and Graeme is the only Scottish player in the eight man European side, representing the University of Stirling. He follows such illustrious players as Luke Donald and Richie Ramsay as competitors in the contest.

Best wishes for continued success this year from the Stirlingshire Golf Union Executive.

Boys Match V Fife Boys 22nd April 2012

On Sunday 22nd April Stirlingshire Boys played against Fife Boys in the annual friendly match at Dunblane New Golf Club.

In a tightly fought match the matchplay ties finished 4 – 4, with the match being decided by a 3 way scratch stableford game in which Fife player Niall McMullen came out on top with 30 points. The match was great experience for some of our Stirlingshire players as Conor Murphy (Bonnybridge), James Yarnell (Glenbervie), Ross Spence (Falkirk) and Jamie Hunter (Falkirk Tryst) were all making their first appearences in the Boys Team. Ross and Jamie were both involved in the final stableford match and performed well with Jamie getting 25 points and Ross 23. Conor and James although losing their matches showed a good deal of promise for the future.

Good wins for Peter Maxwell (Glenbervie), Blair Carnegie (Dunblane New), Ben Craggs (Glenbervie) and Stewart Irving (Falkirk) ensured a very close match.

All the signs for the up and coming West Boys League are looking good. Result, Cameron Buist lost 4&2 to G.Forrester, Peter Maxwell won 2&1 v J.Douglas, Blair Carnegie won 1up v R.Walsh, Ben Craggs won 5&4 v A.Davidson, Stuart Irving won 3&1 v A.McDougall, Jack Gater lost 3&2 v C.Smith, Conor Murphy lost 4&3 V E.Davidson, James Yarnell lost 5&3 v C.Clark, Ross Spence and Jamie Hunter lost stableford match to Niall McMullen, Final Result Stirlingshire 4 Fife 5.

Superb Start To The Season as Graeme Robertson Wins Craigmillar Park Open

Last weekend Graeme Robertson (Glenbervie ) won the prestigious 72 hole Craigmillar Park Open by one stroke against a very strong field of Scotland’s leading amateurs. He holed out on the last green from around 6 feet to win by one shot from East Renfrewshire’s Craig Watson. His four rounds were 64 ; 70 ; 66 and 67 giving a total score of 267 which was 13 under the par of 70. Previous winners include Sir Nick Faldo in 1976 and more recently Marc Warren and Lloyd Saltman both now in the professional ranks. This is the first Order Of Merit Event of the season and on the back of narrowly missing out on victory at the previous weekend’s Champion of Champions Event at Leven gives Graeme a fantastic opening to his season.

Result of A Team Match Vs Lothians at Haddington Golf Club

The Stirlingshire “A” team match against the Lothians took place on Sunday 1st April at Haddington Golf Club. The weather was dry and sunny and the course was in excellent condition for the time of the year.

The result was a dissappointing defeat by 9 games to 1 by a very strong Lothians side. The stand out performance for Stirlingshire came from Ryan Campbell (Falkirk) who defeated Dunbar’s 3 +2 in a hotly contested game.

Suffice it to say that the Lothians certainly got their revenge after our victory at Glenbervie by 6 games to 4 last year !!

A trophy was donated by the Lothians and was presented by Ian Howarth to the winning team. Congratulations to Tom Gowan and his team and many thanks for the welcome and hospitality extended to both the Stirlingshire players and officials.
